When the News Breaks, I Fix It

This podcast obsesses on politics, economics, international issues and current events, with occasional side trips to other subjects.

Conservatives. Why?

There are many types of conservatives. Almost all vote against their own interests. This provides information that conservatives need to know

The Mythological South

How myths and ignorance of the Antebellum South leads the denizens of this region to act against their own self-interests and how it keeps the South from rising . . . economically and politically. Outro: Fats Waller - Your Feets Too Big - The outro I a famous funny jazz song from the 1930s. That's the way Feets is spelled in the song's title.

America - Land of the Fakes

Fake news, fake patriots, fake democracy, fake Christians, fake militias, and real guns, AKA fake penises.

Debt Ceilings

Yea! We’re special. We’re the only country in the world with a debt ceiling. Also, it just happens to be unconstitutional. But of course, reading the Constitution is apparently not considered cool by those inside the Beltway.

The Truth About Taxes

The GOP always promotes cutting taxes. That’s popular but, while it gets them re-elected, they spend like drunken sailors. Somehow, the debt gets larger. Somehow, the Democrats get blamed, though many of them do use the same rule-book. Outro: Trombone Quartet From The Naval Academy - J.S. Bach - Toccata in D Minor

Democracy

What it is supposed to be. What it isn’t. How Athenians practiced it. How we abuse the concept. Then just what are we if not a democracy? Don’t jump to the conclusion that its opposite is called a republic.

Definitions

There are lots of words thrown around in public discourse. Most, both lay and professional, obviously don’t know the meanings of many of these words. Be surprised.

Introducing . . . Me

This episode recounts my academic and real world experience - my qualifications, if you will. Those will provide the listener with a general idea of where I stand. I favor people over corporations and diplomacy over fisticuffs but recognize that in this world we need more arrows in our quiver. I am very much a sceptic and frequently offer unusual perspectives. This also presents the reason for the podcast’s moniker, which I have used on my blog since 2007.

Latest News

I've heard that no news is good news. Given the havoc caused by the pandemic, the events in Europe and the group of incompetents known as Congress, that statement is something most everyone can agree with.
